Learning, rewards, and awards

Last week was Adult Learners’ Week, and I was proud to be a part of an award winning Adult Learning group, studying for a City and Guilds certificate specialising in teaching modern foreign languages.

We were nominated for the award as we were a diverse bunch of nationalities and ages, with varying levels of teaching experience and very different reasons for studying.

Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the gala awards ceremony  to collect my certificate. Jonathan Miller spoke eloquently, and all in all it was an inspirational evening, proving that no matter what your age, disability, race or background, learning is a lifelong process that can radically change people’s lives.

True – my qualification in Modern Foreign Language teaching (Spanish) may not directly relate to my career as a fundraiser and digital marketing adviser to charities at the dotdigital Engagement Cloud, but last week’s evening reinforced my enthusiasm for continued learning, whatever the subject. Albert Einstein put it rather well: “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.”
